Day 23: Punting ain't just for a football.

Train ride round 2 brought us to the college town that perhaps Belle from Beauty in the Beast would attend: Cambridge. Prince William has even graced these educational corridors. Cambridge is young and bustling with bikes, cozy and quaint, with flowers and ivy covering every old character rich building. And surprisingly, it costs as much to attend Utah State. We discovered all the unknown and adorable town spots, thanks to a bright blue eye shadow wearing, fist size jewelry loving, grey frizzy head full of knowledge known as Sally. She tour guided us around, telling story after story: students here are similar to us, they enjoy a good prank. About 50 years ago, students arrived to school only to find a car parked on the roof of one of the oldest buildings. Signs I saw displaying 800 years of acheivement were right. The campus is beautiful, and it is comprised of many separate colleges. We visited King's College first, and the fan vaulting was unbelievable! It looks decievingly light, but each seperating beam weights over 1 ton. totaling 1,785 tons of intricately detailed amazingness. We ventured to another chapel after wards, but due to my lack of listening ability I can't tell you what it was called, where it was, or what it was used for. It was inspiring though. For our lunch break we went to a pub, where we were served the freshest fish and chips available. On the ceiling inside, there are preserved initials and dates written in candle wax from military soldiers hundreds of years ago, it doesn't get more authentic than that. I have been waiting to eat fish and chips this whole trip, and I wasn't about to let this exciting accomplishment go unshared with my fish hating friends. Kaitlyn actually ate the whole thing, I was surprised, shocked, and so proud (she said that the reason she ate it was because she liked that it was one more fish that was dead). Even Ali, hater of all oceanic creatures, ate 2 bites! It was a whale of a tale. Such a great lunch! The shopping here is ridiculous, it's so great! 3 dresses and a purse later, we met up at Fitz William for more tour guided exploration. I was intrigued and entertained by the impressionist paintings, early and high renaissance paintings, and other historical artifacts. Standing ourside our next desination was a girl who slightly resembled an oversized, high, leprechaun. Her and her comrads were rollin some j's. Classy. It was at this point I was introduced to Punting. My feet have never been so thankful: all you do is sit in a boat surrounded by the most incredible architecture and landscape, and listen to facts given by someone paddling you along. Every regret I had for not taking a gondola ride in Vennice was made up for by this. Best hour of the day, and the most beautiful. After, we walked 2 miles back to the train station and caught the train home. 1 1/2 hours later, we arrived back at our flat as forever changed individuals.
